Aims and Objectives

This is a rough translation of the aims and objectives in the guidelines set out by The Swedish Educational Department concerning Kompletterande Svenska (Supplementary course in Swedish) SKOLFS 2000:152

The Swedish school aims to help Swedish families living abroad to make their children bi-lingual, when Swedish is one of their languages. The main aim is to make it easier for Swedish children to move back to Sweden when they have been living abroad.

Since language has great significance for personal identity, the Swedish school will help in strengthening this feeling of belonging to the Swedish Culture.

Since communication is a very important factor in our social life, ability to speak read and write Swedish makes it possible to participate in the Swedish society.

History, film, theatre and books mirror a country's cultural heritage and values. The school has to help the children appreciate what is uniquely Swedish.

This is what we should aim for:

· Develop imagination and love for learning by reading books by choice and interest.

· Develop the spoken and written language through many different topics.

· Expand the vocabulary.

· Develop ways to express thoughts and feelings.

· Experience Swedish Culture like songs, traditions, geography, history and literature.

· To learn about what is currently happening in Sweden today, through newspapers and other media.
